WRF 26 Comes to Tempest Lifestyle Apps

Written by Tempest | July, 2026

Earlier this month, we expanded our flagship high-resolution WRF forecasting model across the United States, giving more users access to the detailed weather intelligence they rely on to make the most of their time on the water.

Now labeled WRF 26, the model itself is not new to the Tempest Lifestyle Apps. We refined the core technology years ago, and the current version has been running in California as WRF Beta for the past two seasons. What has changed is the infrastructure and reach. WRF 26 now runs in a more robust cloud-computing environment, and a version of the model is available across the United States.

This expansion follows the redesigned search, navigation, and map experience introduced across all five Tempest Lifestyle Apps in April. Together, these updates deliver better data through a smoother, more intuitive experience.

Practically speaking, nothing changes about how you use the app. Your forecasts will look and feel familiar. In addition to WRF 26, the Lifestyle Apps will continue to offer trusted models such as ECMWF and HRRR, which you can access in the same way and select as your preferred default forecast. In newly covered areas outside California, WRF 26 will continue to evolve as we refine performance using local observations, terrain, and regional weather patterns.

Update your app and explore WRF 26 in the Tempest Lifestyle Apps.

WRF 26 is WeatherFlow-Tempest’s implementation of the Weather Research and Forecasting model - WRF, pronounced “wharf” - a high-resolution forecasting system used by meteorologists and research institutions around the world for detailed, localized weather prediction.
